Jonathan Smith’s luminous paintings explore the relationship between light, location and the painted surface.  Developed in his Sussex studio from drawings and colour sketches, his process involves walking, watching and recording in all weathers.  Brought up in Aberdeenshire, and trained at Gray’s School of Art, his work has been shown by the RBA and RA, and is held in private and public collections in the UK, Europe, the US and the Far East.   Although constantly returning to Hebridean subjects, regular visits to Italy also provide inspiration.
